SES Labour Solutions and Fitzroy Australia Resources (Fitzroy) have entered into an innovative partnership arrangement to deliver training, development and recruitment solutions at the new Ironbark No.1 underground coking coal project in Queensland.
SES Labour Solutions will deliver the cultural assessment, training requirements and recruitment activities needed for Fitzroy’s Ironbark No.1 mine development in Central Queensland. The project, which is located 35km northeast of Moranbah, is expected to create over 350 ongoing jobs for the region – 50% of which have been earmarked for workers who are new to the mining industry.
SES Labour Solutions specialise in providing true partnerships to mining organisations, offering a full scope of workplace solutions that are flexible by design. The team are focused on cultural alignment of candidates, safety and long-term appointment of the people they place. Providing clients access to a pool of candidates that deliver on safety and stability.
Fitzroy acquired the neighbouring Carborough Downs mine and Broadlea project from Brazilian mining giant Vale in November 2016, along with a portfolio of development and exploration projects. Ironbark is to become the first new development from the suite of Vale assets acquired by Fitzroy, and will share major infrastructure with Carborough Downs.
With a focus on being a modern and innovative operation, Ironbark No. 1 will be an owner operated underground longwall and bord and pillar mine.
Fitzroy Chief Executive Officer Grant Polwarth described the SES Labour Solutions partnership as important in de-risking the development of Ironbark No.1.
“Employing some 350 new Fitzroy personnel is very exciting for our business and the region and it comes with both great opportunity and challenge. Partnering with SES Labour Solutions to not only help recruit and train our new workforce, but further enhance our culture and vision of being a people business that mines coal is another way of challenging industry norms.”
SES Labour Solutions Executive General Manager, Nathan Sharpe said that Fitzroy’s innovative practices and people-centric approach made the partnership a logical alignment.
“Fitzroy are a future market leader in the mining industry, always looking to push the boundaries on traditional mining methodology. What Fitzroy have achieved at Carborough Downs in such a short space of time is a remarkable result already. Their focus on people, and in particular, their desire to drive performance at individual and team levels, is second to none within the industry.
“The team at SES Labour Solutions is looking forward to working hand-in-hand with Fitzroy to bring new workers to Central Queensland and the mining industry, and ensuring that those individuals become part of high-performing teams which will yield wins for the mine, workers and the local community”.
Recruitment for the new underground mining roles with Fitzroy Australia Resources is expected to begin in Q4 2019.
